🎨 Artist’s Note: Working with Platinum Silicone

Please read if you are new to the silicone medium.

The Silicone Difference Platinum silicone is a premium medium, highly sought after for its incredible realism and lifelike movement. Please note that the casting process for silicone is distinct from vinyl and naturally allows for minor surface imperfections.

Nature of the Medium Small "beauty marks" or slight surface variations are not defects; they are a characteristic of authentic silicone casting. Many artists choose to "pre-prep" their kits using a platinum silicone (we recommend EcoFlex 20) to smooth any areas prior to painting.

Skill Level Recommendation Because silicone requires specialized paints and techniques (no baking!), this kit is recommended for experienced artists or those comfortable with the unique requirements of the silicone medium.

Recommended Paint: Our artists are using Smooth On Psycho Paint A&B and Smooth On Silc Pig Silicone Pigments for these kits.

Do not store or display silicone and vinyl dolls or parts together, because they react negatively to each other and can damage your dolls.

Silicone is NOT compatible with Gemini® paints or Golden air dry paints. A silicone paint is required.

    SILICONE TEST RESULTS:

On April 8, 2022 we contracted with EAG Laboratories in Liverpool, NY to test our new Silicone doll kits. The results came back that our Silicone had a concentration of 13 parts per million of the element Pt (Platinum).

On April 14, 2020 we contracted with EAG Laboratories to test a piece of Ecoflex 20 platinum cured silicone. Ecoflex 20 is a popular brand of platinum silicone that most sculptors use to produce their doll kits.  The results came back that the Ecoflex 20 silicone had a concentration of 7 parts per million of the element Pt (Platinum).

Both the Ecoflex and our Silicone tests showed negligible amount of tin - less than 1 part per million.

Realborn® Ethan is the grandson of Nevin and Denise Pratt. We 3D scanned Ethan on 2/19/19 and 2/21/19.  The photography of the real baby was done by a BB employee, and daughter of Nevin and Denise, on 2/20/19.  Final computer editing of the 3D files were done by our employee Melinda (all sculptures, scans, and photographs are protected by Federal copyrights, and we vigorously defend them).
